Despite not being the first livecd in the world of software, knoppix has been the most successful livecd ever. Judging from it's top 11 ranking on DistroWatch.com since 2002 showed that it has a strong followings. I am sure that knoppix, the creation of Klaus Knopper has helped a lot of people. As for me, i use knoppix v5.0.1 to rescue my window xp. I used knoppix v5.0.1 when my window xp at workplace is sick ! Thanks Klaus.
Now, the review proper. The last version of knoppix was v5.0.1, released on 1st June 2006. This time, the new knoppix v5.1.0 made it honourably before New Year with lots of new updates. - KNOPPIX V5.1.0 has :-

I managed to download knoppix_V5.1.0-2006-12-30-EN (about 697mb in size) on 2nd day of new year although it was released on 30 december 2006. I had problem with internet connectivity as a result of the Taiwan earth quake. It took me more than a day to download. Luckily the downloaded iso file matched the md5sum despite the seriously erratic internet connection. Well, after burning it via k3b; I booted up knoppix v5.1.0 on my machine with specs of Athlon64 3000+ 1808Mhz 512kb cache and 2Gb of Ram. The graphic card was ATI Radeon PCIE X300. The boot up and shut down time is definitely faster than knoppix v5.0.1. With this Debian Etch-based new knoppix v5.1.0 , the boot time was 2minutes 15seconds on my machine. I am glad that the conversion to aufs(=another unionfs) has undoubtedly also made the shutting down time to only 45 seconds. By the way, what happened to the japanese made Accelerated knoppix ? In order to see the '3D' knoppix v5.1.0, i typed knoppix desktop=beryl at the prompt to boot up knoppix v5.1.0 , instead of just pressing the Enter key. Despite beryl being at an experimental stage, the 3D eye candy of beryl worked out of the box. The transparency was okay; the woobling cube effect was nice. Just imagine, knoppix, with 3D effects. How i wished the real swiss army knives getting extra features/effects too!
Knoppix has very good track record of hardware detection. Even from my own experience, video card, sound card , ethernet card , monitor detection almost always work. On this machine, Knoppix v5.1.0 automatically detected the correct resolution of my 19-inch samsung lcd monitor. It also had no problem with my ATI based built-in motherboard soundcard. Ralink PCI wifi card worked out of the box. Of course the ethernet card also worked out of the box with the 8139too module. Now, let's examine what's new in the hood of the K-Menu. Well, kanotix submenu is not there any longer. The Beryl Setting Manager is located at the SETTINGS submenu. Knoppix v5.1.0 has started to use the rebranded firefox browser called ICEWEASEL the rebranded thunderbird email client, called ICEDOVE Mail client. Once you have connected to the internet by setting the necessary parameter at KNOPPIX->Network/Internet, you can easily access and install the gigantic debian packages via the apt commands. Then there is Cisco, which too is preferred by many big companies, they give priority to courses like 642-432. Smaller certifications like Comptia's N10-003 tend to be a value added certification. In other words if you have them, getting a job can becomes easier. The tutorials for these courses sell very nicely on the internet. A website design and development can easily be catered through Microsoft's software. Do try and keep computer backup of all the work to avoid loss. By making use of ip phone one can reach out to the clients directly.
